Love Me, Too
Evelyn Spriggs
When we first met, I felt so full of pain and all alone,

And then you smiled and gently held my hand.

When I looked in your eyes I saw that you were hurting, too.

That’s when I knew that you would understand.

You soon became my special friend through bad times and the good;

And so it wasn’t long before I knew. . .

I could fall in love with you . . .

But could you love me too?

We rose together from the ashes of our broken hearts.

We cheered each other up when we felt down.

I knew right from the start I had found someone I could trust;

You gave me hope, and turned my life around.

We came so close so many times, but never saw it through.

I wonder if you feel the way I do . . .

I know that I love you . . .

But do you love me, too?

The fated that brought us close together soon took us apart.

You held me close and whispered "Please don’t go."

You said you’d keep in touch, but I guess I just slipped your mind;

But there’s so much I wanted you to know.

Too late, I wrote a letter telling you just how I felt;

I just can’t bear the thought of losing you . . .

I’m still in love with you . . .

Did you ever love me, too?

The rumors have it that you have found someone new to love.

I really don’t know why I’m surprised.

It wasn’t really love that I saw shining in your eyes;

I see it was just friendship in disguise.

I know I should get over you and leave the past behind,

And try to start a new life with someone new . . . .

‘Cause now I know it’s true . . .

You never loved me, too.

But I still . . .

love . . .

you.
