Dear Mom...
Evelyn Spriggs

Why did I wait until this special day

To tell you the things I should say every day?

First of all, thank you for giving me birth,

And teaching me how to survive on this Earth:

To count to ten...to read a book...

To love a child...to clean...to cook...

To plant a seed...to weed... to hoe...

To choose fabric...to cut...to sew...

To sing...to dance...to drive a car...

To make a wish upon a star.

Thank you for tending to all my diseases...

The itches and fevers and boo-boos and sneezes.

Thank you for being there all through the worst,

When I felt like my heart was going to burst.

Thank you for saying our Father’s above,

To nurture our souls with His mercy and love.

You were my best friend when I had no other,

So thank you...oh, thank you...

for being my mother!
